2nd Week

So what did I do on the second week. Basically, still monitoring the work of bricklaying in the lockup area. However, the subcon tends to do some mistakes on the dimension. Things have gone harder when the first floor beam alignment above the lock up area run off here and there. Well, thats the work from the previous subcon and before i came here + the lack of supervision from the previous supervisor perhaps. So, all i see is headache and constant monitoring needed to prevent such error again. Work are progressing well.

One main problem that always worried me much is the material status. Cement tends to come late. Since plastering works had started on this week, daily consumption of 50 bags of cement is normal. 10 tonnes of cement arrive on tuesday. Fail to arrange it to discard at a site nearer to lock up area since roadwork has started around the balai.

Since bricklaying payment claims is based on daily progress, therefore i have to prepare a daily basis of visual progress to my superior. One of my daily routine job nowadays. Heard some news on the new structural sub con for balai, but still fail to meet them in the 2nd week. All of the revised drawing had been prepared and passed to them through an ex colleague.

What more in balai? Drawings. I revised drawing everyday, both archi and structural drawings, and found that some of the information are not given or do not match. Solution? Have to prepare and submit RFI (request for information) to either Arkiskape (archi consultant) or Ranhill (C&S Consultant). Meaning? Delay of progress since we have to wait for their reply.

Clerk of Work from archi firm often travel down to balai to check on the progress. Pointing out several defects and components that needed extra attention. but all in all, everything still go QUITE smoothly. An bigger problem is the previous subcon pointed out the RC gutter on the lower roof level for the left and right wing are lower than the design by 400 to 450 mm. Cause quite a havoc for one or two days. Questions in my mind?
1) How can they not spot that for 3 months of time?
2) How they are going to solve it?

Deconstruct and recast the gutter will put additional delay to the progress. The cause in my opinion might be due to the constant revision of drawings and sub con misinterpret the drawing detail. The archi CoW discussed with respective company and RE of the site, come out with a conclusion to proceed on with the work. This is due to the clear distance from the soffit of the beam to the slab are enough for the installment of windows and ceiling board. So here comes another problem, what about the center area of the balai? Well that i will have to wait for further instruction when the time came. Visualization of the condition may be hard without pictures. Will try to post pictures when i get the chance to do it.

Other than that, i make a trip to visit the other side of the site, the kelas D E and F. Progress is seemingly good there. Most of the archi works are going on. Roof truss are installed daily. A note on the roof truss. The drawing are a headache for me. Bluescope Lysaught's drawings are hard to understand. However my colleague said once you get the hang of it, you will realize the drawing is simplified efficiently. Well, still in the process for me and i haven't get the steel roof truss drawings from my superiors.

Last work for this week? Leveling. We did leveling on thursday and saturday for the construction of road subbase. The location is along the road to stor barang kes and also the roadway to kelas F and checked the level of existing drainage and apron of the buildings. Friday? A huge pour from the sky causing all works at site comes to a halt. Mostly, only those not effected by the rain can proceed with works such as tiling and stuff. Me on the other hand stay in office and continue to grab knowledge from others, including some paperwork stuff. That's all i guess. Moving into the 3rd Week!

Sidetrack

Alright lets go sidetrack a bit. Sibu, land of the peat soil. Well, a moderate size town with lots of cheap food. Not much entertainment here. Lots of bumpy roads. Haven't really travel to all the places yet but life here, well it gives me a peaceful feeling, slower life pace than Kuching. I don't really hate that, but life is boring without comp and internet, which render me basically nothing to do after work.

What more about this town? hmm people here seriously like bass. Activity at a mall with background music of hyper bass. Awkward. Well traditional culture perhaps. one thing to take note is that hokkien is still one of the mainstream dialect at here, so at least i still can understand what they are talking about. Glad that i didnt need to listen to foochow all day long. =_=

For a town full with chinese, the numbers of churches here exceed temples by a dozen. Well, their culture again perhaps. Food is ok with cheap price if you know how to order. Some place are expensive though. But still, i don't have much appetite eversince i came here. Prefer to settle dinner by maggi as we are all lazy to think about going where to eat.

Met some interesting person here and there. Heard interesting stories here and there. Poof and April is almost at its end. Life in Sibu? Kuching? well somehow i still prefer my life in my little room back at Sri Serdang.

Some additional notes for the first week training progress. Attend the internal meeting and basically brief up on current status of the whole project and things to take note. Site meeting came up on 9th April and basically not related to me. PBLT just came in and check and perhaps complain here and there. But that's the only day that the site office are packed with dozens and dozens of cars. Well, nothing much i guess. Onto the second week progress.

Update 1st week

Ok. First thing first, applied leave for a day to travel back to kuching to have my MUET exams. Finally got the chance to update my blog. Seriously, I still think the idea of blogging the progress isnt a good idea. Not everyone has a laptop and a wireless connection with them. Not every site office provide you with internet. And most importantly not everyone are working at our home town.

Well complaints aren't making any progress anywhere. Might as well just post a brief update of my training so far. Well, currently I am stationed at a site at Sibu, which is a government project of building a balai polis or a police station at Sungai Merah, Jalan teku. Well, firstly, the Balai is big, and kinda look like a Police HQ if you asked me. But then again, it's still big after so many days, bigger then a normal balai, but still smaller than a HQ after close inspection.

Day1, meeting with my colleagues. Guess what, nice and crazy people. Sitting in the site office, consisting of a team of crazy guys. Our team act as the management team for the overall project for the main contractor, Arudaya. Havent got any chance to catch their photo but will post it up when i have the chance, but basically, team consists of Bong (the boss), Ah Ki (site coordinator), Roy (Site admin), Darryl (safety supervisor), Lewis (Arudaya representative, QA/QC engineer), Chris (M&E coordinator), Michael (Site Clerk), Ting, David, and me (supervisors).

Well scope of work? basically the whole project consists of 2 block of 8 storey apartment (Kelas F), semi d and bungalow (Kelas D and E) a huge Balai polis with 21 units of lokap, Surau, 2 PSU, stor barang kes, and sewage treatment plant. Not to forget a one to one size standard soccer field and sports facilities. My working area? the balai polis. I was tasked to supervise the work of balai and the first thing that they tell me is the balai had been halt at work for 3 months. Reasons? Material, drawing changes, and subcons.

First day of work, catching back up with the drawings and details of things that i need to know. nothing much going on at site since that day was the chinese "ching ming" festival. Most of the people are release to do their rituals. Well, i went to the balai area and do some survey and checking up on the progress. so basically, the lock up area is undergoing bricklaying and first floor and groundfloor structures are basically done, except on some of the structures.to my understanding, currently there are no structural sub con working on the balai yet. So, first week, my job? inspect on the bricklaying progress and make sure the new archi subcon know about the layout and build accordingly to the drawing. Minimizing error of construction and construct with speed is the main concern currently as the whole project is in EoT number 1. the lockup is full with different sizes of grilles. Coordinate the needed material by subcon is also one of the concern here. well, first week, progress is good. Did see some fast progress on the balai lock up area. Pictures.. Yea, i forget to bring back my phone cable, and i do not own a digi cam, so pictures will be uploaded when i get my hand on card reader, and internet =___=.

That's all for the first week i guess, working monday to saturday, 7:30am to 6:45pm daily. Busy life, time flies, boring night time, early sleeping, moving into week 2.

1st Official Post

The first official post I guess. Well, yea, time to blog again. This is one of the requirement of my Industrial Training in UNITEN where I have to blog for my training progress. Since I don't feel like constructing a blog just for the training purpose, therefore I decided to make this blog my main blog from now on.

11pm on the 2nd of April, have to travel down to LCCT really soon. Time to head back to hometown and travel to Sibu where my Training will start next week. Haven't really done my packing yet, kinda feeling lazy and tired right now. Flight is at 12:55pm tomorrow. 3 months away from Serdang, away from my comp, away from my rented house. Right after the 3 months training, have to deal with a brand new semester again.

Seriously, time schedule is super tight this semester. All the pushing of assignments, midterms and presentations towards the end of the semester plus the packed final schedule really worn me out. However, glad that all of them are over now. Hopefully, my results will turn out all right too. From tomorrow onwards marks another 1 year of marathon of hard work. Many things are coming up soon. Let's hope that most thing will turn out fine.
